Submission guidelines
Our platforms, your voice.

We built our platforms to amplify the under-represented voices of women and non-binary people in Australia’s advertising, marketing, media and technology industries. We believe a key way to pass the ladder down is to be visible. By sharing thought leadership generously and with confidence, we give others courage to do the same.
REMUNERATION
Mavens is a voluntary, unfunded community publication and cannot pay contributors. In exchange for your contribution, we offer full accreditation and invite you to freely self-promote your work and business within your submission. We agree that we will not commercially exploit your work (e.g. sell the individual article for profit). Any necessary revenue generation (such as cost-covering advertising or future grants) will not change your non-paid contributor status.

-

-

WHAT WE CAN OFFER
We can provide professional editing to help polish your submission. Once your submission is approved by our Editor, we’ll publish it on themavens.com.au and develop social media creative to promote it on our LinkedIn and Instagram. There is no financial cost to you for submitting.
VOICE AND TONE
If you’re writing as a credited author, please use your own tone of voice. This is especially recommended for opinion editorials and thought leadership contributions. If you’d like to write on behalf of Mavens (anonymously), please request a copy of our Brand Guidelines. This option is only recommended where the content you wish to express may present a risk to your professional reputation, e.g. your workplace is not supportive of your views.
WORD COUNT
Minimum 500 words, maximum 2,000 words.

AI WRITING
The use of AI tools in your creative process is permitted, but the final submission must reflect your unique voice. You are responsible for ensuring the editorial integrity of the work. Mavens reserves the right to reject low-quality or unedited AI submissions to maintain community standards.
INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY
Submissions must be original work. If your content references or appropriates external material, proper citations and acknowledgements must be included. You retain full intellectual property rights (ownership) of
your submission. By submitting, you:
-
Consent to Mavens undertaking reasonable editorial changes, correction of errors and standard formatting necessary for publication.
-
Expressly grant Mavens a non-exclusive license to publish, reproduce, and distribute the work in all our formats. In exchange for this right, authors agree not to submit the work for publication elsewhere for a period of six (6) months following its publication on themavens.com.au without first consulting with Mavens’ editorial team.
IMAGERY
You must include a hi-res headshot to accompany your submission. Any additional imagery, video links or editorial art (including Generative AI art) must be content you personally own or have a valid, transferable license to use. By submitting visual content, you warrant that you have the right to grant Mavens permission to use it. Please provide the source of any non-original image or AI platform used.
